The Collie J. Nicholson Chapter of the Grambling University National Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Jamil Rashad is the first recipient of the $2000 Fulgence Scholarship.

Inspired by David Boykins and Louis Fulgence, the scholarship was created to recognize the academic achievements of African American males currently enrolled at Grambling State Univesity from Louisiana and Texas. The award was presented on January 25 by Grambling State Alumni Brian and Lisa Fulgence.

“This is such a blessing. I’m so appreciative of Mr. and Mrs. Fulgence and the Collie J. Nicholson Alumni Chapter for being recognized for this award,” Rashad said. “I also want to thank my family for their continuous support of my academic journey.”

A sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, Rashad is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing. During his tenure at Grambling State, he’s been honored with distinction to the coveted President’s List and Dean’s List for his academic accomplishments, and he currently maintains a 3.4 GPA. He’s also a volunteer coach for Texas Special Olympics.
